Why We need God more Than ever

I have been thinking a lot lately about the direction our country is going and comparing it to what our founding fathers envisioned.  As a history major in college I loved early American history and political history.  Every decision I make in life is based on my faith and God, just like the men who started this terrific nation.  They all believed that our rights came from God and not man or government.  Liberals may argue that America was not founded under Christian values, but in fact, Samuel Adams, the father of the American revolution believed that in order to have a serene nation we must be a Christian nation.

“I conceive we cannot better express ourselves than by humbly supplicating the supreme ruler of the world . . . that the confusions that are and have been among the nations may be overruled by the promoting and speedily bringing in the holy and happy period when the kingdoms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ may be everywhere established, and the people willingly bow to the scepter of Him who is the prince of Peace,” Samuel Adams.

Our founders established our Republic as a Christian nation and assumed that this would continue for many years to come. In 1854 Congress, U. S. house Judiciary Committee, declared that the united states is indeed a Christian nation.

“Had the people, during the Revolution, had a suspicion of any attempt to war against Christianity, that revolution would have been strangled in its cradle… In this age, there can be no substitute for Christianity… That was the religion of the founders of the republic and they expected it to remain the religion of their descendants.” (source: Reports of Committees of the house of representatives Made during the first Session of the Thirty-Third Congress [Washington: A. O. P. Nicholson, 1854], pp. 6-9.)

Today, with our open boarders, acceptance of lifestyles that go against the teachings in the Bible and the ten commandments, violence in our inner cities, the glorification of sex, lies and corruption within our government, race hatred, high divorce statistics and fewer families attending church on Sundays we have veered away from God.

What would Samuel Adams say if he saw what his nation has become? He would be disgraced and shame us all. The only way we can turn things around and become the terrific Christian Republic we once were is to love one another like Jesus and return to a God centered culture.

We as a people need to make the right decisions. Do you watch that violent movie on television or turn it off? If your marriage is troubled, do you seek counseling and help or take the easy route and break it off? Do you pray with your children and teach them about right and wrong or let them learn it from their peers in school? Do you teach your children about modesty and immorality or let them learn it from television, Hollywood and magazine covers? should you sleep in on Sunday or wake your family early to go to that church you haven’t been to since Easter? When you check out the voting booth do you vote for liars and cheaters or men and women who are just, honest and want to do the right thing for our country?

I believe that the devil himself is in control of our culture. We see the results of his works each day on the news. In order to fight the evil one we need to turn to the Lord and our blessed mother for help and base our each day decisions on the Christian values our Republic was founded under.
